How to Set Up IPTV on Roku

Roku is popular but runs its own OS — it doesn't support Android apps, which means TiviMate and IPTV Smarters won't install directly. There are two practical workarounds, and one longer-term recommendation.

Option 1: Screen casting from your phone or tablet

The easiest approach with an existing Roku setup. If your Roku supports screen mirroring (most do), you can cast your phone's screen to the TV and run IPTV Smarters or any other player app from your phone.

  1. On your Roku, go to Settings → System → Screen Mirroring and set it to Prompt or Always Allow.

  1. On your Android phone: pull down the notification shade and tap Smart View / Cast / Screen Mirror. Select your Roku from the list.

  1. Open your IPTV player app on the phone — it appears full-screen on the TV.

The downside is that your phone is tied up while casting and battery drains. It's practical for occasional viewing but not ideal for daily use.

Option 2: Native Roku IPTV channels

Search the Roku Channel Store for "IPTV" — there are a few M3U-based channels available. Quality and maintenance vary, but they can work for basic M3U playlist loading without needing a second device.

The long-term recommendation: swap for a Fire Stick or Android box

If IPTV is something you'll use regularly, a Fire Stick 4K (around £40 / $50) or an Android TV box plugged into the same HDMI port is the cleanest solution. It supports every IPTV player natively, performs better, and removes the casting workaround entirely. Your Roku remote won't work, but the Fire Stick's remote is comparable.
