How to Install IPTV on an Android TV Box
Android TV boxes are one of the most flexible IPTV setups available. Here's how to install a player, connect your subscription, and get the most out of the box.
Android TV boxes give you a full Android environment on your television. That means you can install almost any IPTV player, switch between them, and tune your setup exactly how you like it — more flexibility than a Fire Stick or Smart TV.
Ready to test on your box?
Request a free trial and try the channels on your Android box before choosing a plan.

- An Android TV box (any Android 5+ device)
- Your IPTV subscription credentials (URL, username, password)
- A player app — TiviMate or IPTV Smarters are the top two choices
Step 1: Enable unknown sources
Go to Settings → Security → Unknown Sources and enable it. On some boxes this is under Developer Options instead. This lets you install apps from outside the Google Play Store — required for TiviMate if it's not available in your region's Play Store.
Step 2: Install your player
Search for TiviMate or IPTV Smarters Pro in the Google Play Store first — on many Android TV boxes they're available directly. If not, install the Downloader app and use it to grab the APK from the player's official site.
Step 3: Connect your subscription
Open the player and choose Add Playlist → Xtream Codes. Enter your server URL, username, and password. The app loads your channels and guide in the background — the first load takes a minute, after which it's fast.
Step 4: Optimise playback
Android boxes vary in hardware quality. If a stream stutters:
- Switch the decoder to Hardware first (faster on most boxes), then try Software if that stutters too.
- Lower the stream quality in the player settings if your connection is borderline.
- Connect the box via Ethernet rather than Wi-Fi — a significant improvement for live sport.
